Studio 2 - Yoga Rope Wall

JoyMoves Studio 2 is the room that houses our yoga rope wall.

It’s just over 1,000 square in size (i.e. approximately 30 ft x 35 ft) and can fit about 24 students at a time. It features a bamboo hardwood floor and 19 rope wall stations. It is located in the office building immediately adjacent to the JoyMoves building; which makes it about a 50 yard walk from the JoyMoves front door. Client check-in can occur at either location.

What is a Yoga Rope Wall?

Simply put, it is a solid wood wall (in our case, made out of maple) that has secure hooks spread evenly about every 12 inches at five different height levels. The studio is equipped with specialized harnesses (usually called “yoga ropes”) that secure into the hooks in the wall. Each harness can support up to 1,500 pounds. Depending upon the pose, a person uses one or two harnesses.

What’s a Rope Wall for?

The harnesses support a person’s weight. This enables a yoga student to accomplish poses with better alignment and less pressure on certain joints. Imagine for example, doing downward dog with your hips being supported from above. It is even possible to be safely inverted on the wall.

The yoga rope wall is beneficial for both new students as well as for advanced students. Beginners can be taught poses with proper alignment from the start, while veterans can deepen their practice.

Which Classes Use the Rope Wall?

Our yoga instructors use the wall as they see fit, integrating it as appropriate into their classes. _That said, most classes held in Studio 2 (see Schedule) use the rope wall for part of a class.
